One dead after shooting on Weaver St. in Rochester

UPDATE (Sept. 27, 2022): The man shot to death walking down Weaver Street last week was identified as Carlos Roman-Morales, 40, a homeless man who was "well known and well-liked in the neighborhood for helping with odd jobs," said Capt. Frank Umbrino of the Rochester Police Department. No charges have been filed in connection with the slaying.

ORIGINAL STORY (Sept. 22, 2022): A man in his 40s was fatally shot as he was walking down Weaver Street in Rochester at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Rochester Police Capt. Frank Umbrino said it was not clear whether the man was the intended target. His name was not released. The killing marks Rochester's 59th homicide of 2022.

Two other shootings occurred within an hour of the homicide

  • Three people were shot on Frost Street, near Genesee Street around 9:50 p.m. Officers found a 17-year-old boy shot at least once in the lower body, police said. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. Two other young men, both about 20 years old, were shot in the upper body and taken to Strong by private vehicle. All three shooting victims suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

  • A man in his 20s was shot at least once in the upper body on Wilson Street around 9:30 p.m. His injuries were considered life-threatening and he was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Investigations underway

No charges have been filed in connection with any of the three shootings on Wednesday. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
