One dead, two injured in Highway 44 crash

Thursday, Dec. 29

One person was killed Wednesday afternoon after two cars crashed into each other at the intersection of Highway 44 and Silver Bridge Road in Millville, the California Highway Patrol said.

The collision happened shortly after 2 p.m. when a motorist driving a 2000 Toyota Solara north on Silver Bridge Road pulled out into the intersection with Highway 44 in front of a 2011 Jeep Cherokee going east, the CHP said.

The person in the Toyota was killed when the Jeep slammed into the left side of the car, the CHP said. The driver of the Toyota, who was the only person in that car, has not been named because family has not been notified, officials said.

Two people in the Jeep, Arthur John Howatt, 71, and Lori Nadine Howatt, 66, both of Shingletown, had moderate injuries and were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, the CHP said.
