One Dead, Two in Critical Condition After Helicopter Crashes Off Louisiana Coast

One person died and two others were in critical condition after a helicopter crashed in the Gulf of Mexico, about 46 miles south of Louisiana, on Wednesday, October 26, the US Coast Guard (USCG) said.

This footage, released on Thursday, shows an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew responding from Air Station New Orleans. The downed helicopter was “flipped upside down with flotation devices and a life raft deployed,” the coast guard said.

Two people were hoisted from the ocean and transferred to University Medical Center New Orleans in critical condition, but a third crew member was found dead, according to USCG.

Lt Cmdr Sean DiGeorge, a USCG District Eight search-and-rescue coordinator, said the coast guard was “saddened” by the death and offered sympathies to family and friends of the victim. Credit: US Coast Guard via Storyful
