One dead, two injured in three-car Turnpike crash Thursday

CARTERET – A 75-year-old man died and two others were injured in a three-car crash on the New Jersey Turnpike early Thursday.

A preliminary investigation revealed that around 12:01 a.m. a Lincoln Navigator was traveling south in the right lane with a Toyota Prius traveling behind it, and a Nissan Murano was traveling south in the left lane. A collision occurred near mile point 95.3 between the Navigator and the Prius, which then traveled across the lanes and was struck by the Murano, authorities said.

A passenger in the Murano, Markio Chang, of Montrose, Cal. sustained fatal injuries, while the driver, a 49-year-old Philadelphia man, sustained minor injuries, and another passenger, a 37-year-old man, also from Montrose, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Alejandro Goez said.

The driver of the Toyota, a 19-year-old man from Harrison, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital while the driver of the Navigator, a 70-year-old Morganville man, was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.
