One dead, two others seriously injured in head-on collision near Milbank

Nov. 9—MILBANK, S.D. — One woman died following a two-vehicle crash 10 miles west of Milbank on Monday, Nov. 7.

Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2008 Ecoline Van was eastbound on U.S. Highway 12 when it crossed the centerline into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a westbound 2005 Dodge Ram pickup. Both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane.

The 28-year-old female driver of the van was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt.

The 26-year-old male driver of the pickup sustained life-threatening injuries while the 26-year-old male passenger received serious non-life threatening injuries. Both occupants were taken via ambulance to a Milbank hospital. Seat belt use by those occupants is under investigation.

The names of the three people involved have not yet been released pending notification of family members.

South Dakota Highway Patrol will continue to investigate the crash. All information released thus far is only preliminary.
