One dead, two seriously injured Friday in western Minnesota crash

Sep. 24—NORMAN TOWNSHIP — A 32-year-old Hendricks, Minnesota, woman died in a crash Friday evening south of

Canby

in western Minnesota's Yellow Medicine County, and two people from Canby suffered life-threatening injuries.

Maria Christine Hanson was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu northbound on U.S. Highway 75 when it collided with a 2017 Ford F-150 pickup traveling southbound near the intersection of 190th Avenue in Norman Township, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Hanson was not wearing a seat belt and died as a result of her injuries. Road conditions were described as wet. Alcohol was also determined to be involved, according to the report.

The driver of the Ford, Steven Aloise Bednarek, 42, and his passenger, Sarah Beth Bednarek, 42, both of Canby, suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash and were transported to a Sanford Health System hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The Bednareks were wearing seat belts and there was no alcohol detected, according to the report.

Assisting at the crash reported at 7:37 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, were the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff's Office, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, and Canby Fire and Ambulance.
