One dead, two wounded in shootings in Fort Pierce; police investigating

FORT PIERCE — One man is dead and two others injured after two shooting incidents Wednesday that are under police investigation, according to Fort Pierce police.

The most recent occurred as Fort Pierce police about 7:12 p.m. Wednesday went to the 500 block of Florida Avenue after a report of shooting activity. A 31-year-old man was struck. He was taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police Sgt. Charles Donnon on Thursday said the man was sitting in front of the home in a chair.

“He was approached from an unknown direction and shot several times,” Donnon said.

The man appeared to have been shot at close range, and there were no other injuries.

“He was absolutely the target of what happened,” Donnon said.

Police did not identify the deceased, citing Marsy’s Law, which was passed by voters in 2018 and expanded the rights of crime victims.

Donnon said investigators are looking for a green, four-door Dodge Charger with black wheels that witnesses reported seeing fleeing the area.

Several vehicles and individuals were at the home Thursday, though they declined comment.

Fort Pierce police are investigating a shooting about 7:12 p.m. June 1, 2022, in the 500 block of Florida Avenue. A 31-year-old man was shot.

About five hours earlier — at 2:19 p.m. — police went to the 600 Block of Dundas Court after a report of gunfire. A 24-year-old man and a 39-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital.

“Indication now is that they were approached from the rear of the house at close range, and both men sustained multiple gunshot wounds," Donnon said.

He said those men, who had been sitting on the porch, are expected to recover fully from their injuries.

The shooting scenes on Florida Avenue and Dundas Court are just west of U.S. 1, less than a 1.5-mile drive apart.

Donnon said investigators have not been able to confirm a relationship between the incidents.

“All our detectives are out right now tracking down leads and talking to people who have been calling us," Donnon said. "We've gotten a bunch of calls from the community and we have everybody available out going door-to-door right now and trying to pull video ... to try to see if they were, in fact, connected.”
