How To Make Mod Podge Easter Eggs

Water balloons, kitchen supplies, and a little Mod Podge come together to make these vibrant eggs, perfect for centerpieces and tabletop accents.

Every Easter, we load up our carts with eggs. We love to decorate eggs with family using everything from Cool Whip to rice to Kool Aid. We even like to do some more elegant egg decorating of our own. Unless you know how to masterfully blow out the contents of an egg through a single pin hole, your hard boiled, eggs won’t last forever. Sometimes, you’re lucky if they make it through just one Easter. With this vibrant Easter craft, consider that problem solved. Some of the most colorful eggs aren’t eggs at all. The secret to the perfect Easter eggs is to use balloons. Blow up a balloon until it’s egg shaped and then cover it craft closet staples to create beautiful eggs that will last you a lifetime.

You can make these eggs bright with bold colors or use more timeless, muted pastel tones. They’re the perfect little addition to a last-minute centerpiece or just to add a touch of Easter in nooks and crannies around your home.

What You'll Need

• Colored tissue paper

• Mod Podge glue

• Water balloons

• Colored raffia ribbon

• Pie plate

• Nonstick cooking spray

• Wire cooling rack

Preparation

1. Tear tissue paper into approximately 2- to 3-inch pieces.

2. Cut coordinating raffia into approximately 24-inch pieces – either 1 or 2 lengths.

3. Pour 1/8 cup of Mod Podge glue into the pie plate. (Add more as necessary.) Mix a little water with glue to thin it out a bit, but be careful not to make it too watery.

How To Make Mod Podge Easter Eggs

1. Blow the balloon up to an egg shape (should be bigger than an actual egg). Spray balloon with cooking spray.
2. Using your hands, dip the tissue paper into the glue mixture and press onto balloon. Repeat until the entire balloon is covered.

3. Dip the ribbon into the glue. Begin wrapping over the tissue paper.
4. After you've gotten the desired effect, sit the balloon eggs out to dry overnight on a wire cooling rack.

5. The next morning, pop the balloon with a needle or safety pin.
6. Place in a pretty glass bowl for your Easter table.
