UPDATE: One Huntsville officer injured, suspect dead in Huntsville shooting

Oct. 12—Sgt. Kyle Dockery was shot today after responding to a person with a weapon call at the Timbers Apartments on the west side of Huntsville. He was taken to Conroe HCA Hospital, where he underwent a successful surgery to address his injuries. Sgt. Dockery is out of surgery and listed at this time in stable condition.

According to Sgt. Wade Roberts with Huntsville Police Department, Sgt. Dockery is a 17-year veteran of the Huntsville Police Department. Please continue to keep Sgt. Dockery, his family, and the Huntsville Police Department in your prayers.

A local police officer was shot at the Timbers Apartments around 1:15 p.m. Thursday afternoon. According to Sgt. Wade Roberts, Public Information Officer for Huntsville Police Department, the officer was was dispatched to a report of a person with a weapon.

"The initial information given was that a male subject was acting erratically and brandishing a firearm in the parking lot between two buildings," said Sgt. Roberts. "The subject was seen entering an apartment and officers contacted him there."

Sgt. Roberts said during that contact, gunfire was exchanged with multiple shots fired.

"The suspect was shot and pronounced dead at the scene," Sgt. Roberts said. "The injured officer was taken to Conroe for medical treatment and his current condition is listed as stable."

Sgt. Roberts said that all officer involved shootings require an investigation by Texas Rangers.

"We ask that you keep the officer, his family, and the department in your prayers," said Sgt. Roberts.
