One injured in shooting at Gary Family Dollar location

One person was injured on Monday in a shooting at a Family Dollar in Gary, according to a statement from the Gary Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the store, located in the 1400 Block of West 25th Avenue, in response to a report of shots fired inside the business. They found a 21-year-old male employee with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the statement. The suspect had left the scene by the time police arrived.

The victim was transported to a hospital, where his wounds were treated by Gary Fire Department Medics.

Gary PD Commander of Special Operations Dawn Westerfield wrote that “the victim and suspect have prior knowledge of each other, and this incident is personal between the two and not a robbery of the store.”

An employee at the store Tuesday had no comment. Police have not released additional details about the shooting.
