One person was shot and five juveniles arrested Saturday night after gunfire broke out at a haunted house in North Carolina.
Almost 1,000 people were crowded into the Reaper’s Realm haunted house in China Grove, just north of Charlotte, when shots were fired shortly before 8:30 p.m., the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.
“Deputies had to deal with multiple large and small groups of persons that were fighting each other, and there were some shots fired by persons at the event,” police said, calling the scene “chaotic.”
Pepper spray was eventually deployed for those who refused to disperse.
An unidentified victim self-reported to the local hospital with a gunshot wound to the foot, which he said he likely suffered as he was running away, according to officials. He was treated and released.
Five juveniles were arrested and “will be charged and processed through the juvenile court system,” officials said. Three guns were also confiscated.
Reaper’s Realm includes a haunted farmhouse, haunted trail, slaughter house, hilltop asylum and zombie laser tag across 6,000 square feet, according to its website.
