A year ago today, the city of Kabul fell to the Taliban, as the chaotic withdrawal of the U.S. from Afghanistan unfolded. Now, across the country, women are being beaten for speaking out against oppression, families can’t afford food, while hospitals are overcrowded and running out of supplies. Afghanistan is looking more like the country that the U.S. invaded two decades ago.
