One killed in 2-vehicle crash on US 35

CHILLICOTHE – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash involving a commercial vehicle on US 35 near milepost 35.

On Monday at approximately 10:25 a.m., a 2015 International Prostar commercial semi, hauling a 2008 Tremcar tanker, driven by Ryan Jardine, 39, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was traveling northwest on US 35.

Jardine began slowing to make a right turn into a private driveway when a 2009 Toyota Camry, driven by Timothy McCartney, 31, of Thurman, failed to maintain an assured clear distance ahead and struck the Tremcar tanker. McCartney was not wearing his seatbelt and succumbed to his injuries at the scene according to a news release.

Jefferson Township Fire/EMS, Ross County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ross County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds motorists to always wear their seatbelts. The crash remains under investigation.
