One killed in fatal crash with a Chevrolet and Tesla in Roy

ROY, Utah (ABC4) — One woman was fatally injured in a car crash involving a Chevrolet Blazer and Tesla near the Roy and West Haven city border late Tuesday night, Feb. 20.

Sgt. Terance Lavely of the Weber County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened around 9 p.m. at the intersection of 4000 South and Midland Drive. According to Lavely, the Chevrolet Blazer was driving south on Midland Drive at the time the northbound Tesla was attempting to turn left onto 4000 South. Preliminary findings suggest the Tesla turned in front of the Blazer and was struck on the passenger side.

A young woman, whose age and identity have not been publicly released, was sitting in the front passenger seat of the Tesla. Lavely said she died due to her injuries at the scene while receiving medical attention. Another woman and an infant also in the Tesla were taken to the hospital with only minor injuries and are in “good condition.”

The Blazer had four passengers, all of varying ages, according to Lavely. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the initial investigation before being personally taken to a local hospital. The other three passengers were also personally taken to local area hospitals as a precautionary measure. Lavely reported all four are in good condition.

Lavely said the Weber County C.R.A.S.H. team responded to investigate the collision and was on-site to reconstruct the crash. The intersection was closed for several hours as a result.

Investigators do not believe impairment was a factor in the crash.

Authorities have not released any further information, pending notification of the young woman’s family and the ongoing investigation.
