One killed in Saturday night motorcycle crash near Hill City

Sep. 6—HILL CITY, S.D. — One man was killed Saturday night in a single-motorcycle crash in the Black Hills.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday, authorities in Pennington County were called to mile marker 96 of U.S. Highway 385, roughly 15 miles north of Hill City, for a report of a single-motorcycle crash.

Preliminary crash information released by the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates that a 2012 Harley Davidson Touring motorcycle was southbound on U.S. Highway 385 when it crossed the centerline into the northbound lane and hit a guardrail.

The 72-year-old driver was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The name of the person involved is not yet being released pending notification of the family members.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
