One killed in single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 25 on-ramp in Pueblo

One person was killed in a single-vehicle wreck Wednesday morning, according to Pueblo police.

A white SUV was traveling northbound onto the Interstate 25 on-ramp at Pueblo Boulevard at around 9:50 a.m. when the vehicle went off the roadway, said Sgt. Frank Ortega, a spokesperson for the Pueblo Police Department.

"They went up the embankment a little bit and then started flipping," Ortega said. The vehicle then came to rest on its side.

The driver was killed and two passengers were taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Ortega said.

The northbound ramp at Pueblo Boulevard and I-25 was closed for several hours, reopening before 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The crash was attributed to fatigue, Ortega said, although he noted he did not know if the driver was asleep at the time of the crash.

Police continue to investigate the crash. The victim will be identified by the Pueblo County coroner after their next of kin has been notified.
