Jun. 10—PICKSTOWN, S.D. — One woman was killed and three more were injured in a head-on collision east of Pickstown on Thursday night.
Shortly before 10:45 p.m. Thursday, authorities in Charles Mix County were called to mile marker 278 of South Dakota Highway 46, approximately two miles east of Pickstown, for a report of a two-vehicle crash.
Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2012 Chrysler Town & County minivan was westbound on South Dakota Highway 46 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound 2021 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup.
The 76-year-old female driver of the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt.
All three male occupants of the pickup were injured. The 24-year-old male driver sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a Wagner hospital and later airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.
The two passengers, ages 18 and 19, suffered minor injuries. The driver was wearing a seat belt and seat belt use by the passengers is under investigation.
Names of the four people involved are not yet being released pending notification of family members.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
