One killed in two-vehicle crash Monday morning
Oct. 2—A Cumberland County man lost his life in a near head-on crash on Monday morning at the intersection of Hwy. 127 N. and Tabor Loop, according to a preliminary report released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Dead as a result of injuries suffered is James P. Shrewsbury, 40. He was traveling alone. Escaping injury was a second driver identified as Benny M. Hughes, 61, who was traveling along in a tractor-trailer rig.
The crash occurred around 6:50 a.m., according to the preliminary report. Shrewsbury was traveling south on Hwy,. 127 in a 2013 Dodge Avenger and crossed the center line into the path of a 2015 Peterbilt semi-truck, the report states.
The impact caused the car to spin counter-clockwise back across the center line and into the southbound ditch line. The tractor-trailer left the road and came to a controlled stop facing northeast.
The crash caused a temporary closing of the highway. One lane of traffic was opened later and the crash scene was cleared under three hours after the wreck.
No charges are anticipated as a result of the crash.
