One less contest in Nov. 7 Braintree town election

A Braintree resident gets ready to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2021.

BRAINTREE – There will be no race for the three seats on the school committee on the Nov. 7 town election after all.

Christopher Peters, who had filed nomination papers to run for the seat, said he is withdrawing from the race.

"I have decided, due to demands at work and at home, I will be unable to fill a seat on the school committee at this time," Peters wrote in an online post Thursday.

Since the Oct. 5 withdrawal deadline has passed, Peters' name will still appear on the ballot. Peters said he would decline the seat if elected.

He thanked everyone who helped him gather the signatures needed to qualify for the ballot and wished the three remaining candidates luck.

The remaining candidates are Joseph Fogarty, a lawyer and a former teacher; Rachel Horak, an educational specialist with a doctorate in biology; and Justin Rollo, a real estate broker. The seats are for a four-year term.

They will fill the seats held by school committee members Kelly Cobb-Lemire, Thomas Devin and Karla Psaros, who did not seek reelection.

Two contests remain on the town election ballot. Former planning board Chair Erin Joyce is challenging incumbent Charles Kokoros for mayor. And Peter Morin, a former Norwell town administrator and chief of staff to former Mayor Joseph Sullivan, is facing Mark Doucette for the District 6 town council seat.
