The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating a shooting inside a home on Tallahassee's south side that killed one and injured two men.

According to a Tallahassee Online Police Statistics map, someone called at 9:45 a.m. to report that they heard shots fired in the 600 block of Famcee Avenue, just a block away from Florida A&M police headquarters.

When police arrived, two men were suffering from gunshot wounds and were taken to a local hospital, according to a TPD social media update.

“Sadly, one man succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival, and the second man remains hospitalized with serious injuries,” TPD said.

Not long after police started the investigation, the third man arrived at the hospital to be treated for wounds he sustained during the shooting.

By Friday evening, TPD's Violent Crimes Unit identified all the involved parties and determined it was an isolated incident. "Based on this information, detectives believe there is no immediate concern for a threat to public safety," TPD said just before 5 p.m. in a social media update.

Even with parties identified, no arrests have been made and the case is still an open and active investigation.

“Detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident, but did not speak with an officer on scene, to please call 850-891-4200,” TPD said. “They may also remain anonymous by calling Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS.”

A TPD spokesperson said she had no other information or details on potential suspects.

Friday's incident is already the second violent death investigation of the new year.

In the first few hours of New Year's Day, TPD initially announced a shooting at 2:15 a.m. in the 600 block of Osceola Street. Hours later, investigators said it may have been an "accidental death caused by fireworks," but an autopsy report that was released Thursday confirmed the manner of death was in fact a homicide.

The cause of death, whether the man was killed by a gun or fireworks, still isn't confirmed. No arrests have been made.
