One man dies in two vehicle crash near East Mountain

GILMER, Texas (KETK) – One person is reportedly dead after a two vehicle crash in the intersection of State Highway 300 and FM 726 near East Mountain on Monday at around 2:30 p.m.

According to a release, the East Mountain Police Department was notified of the crash and responded to the scene. The Upshur County Sheriff’s Office Communication notified the police department that one person seemed to be “entrapped upside down in a vehicle.”

When police arrived at the scene they saw two crashed vehicles on either side of the highway and called EMS and fire units to assist. Authorities said three people were out of the car and were being attended by an off-duty nurse.

Camp County EMS, East Mountain VFD, West Mountain VFD and Gilmer FD responded to the scene and traffic was reportedly diverted to FM 3358.

The person entrapped in the vehicle was reportedly pronounced dead by a justice of the peace after being extricated and succumbing to his injuries. Police identified the man as Robert Haley of Ore City.

Authorities said the driver and occupants of the second vehicle were transported to a local hospital where they were treated and later released.
