One man shot to death, another shot critically an hour apart Wednesday

A 41-year-old Abilene man was shot to death Wednesday afternoon in northwest Abilene, with the suspect in the killing arrested six hours later.

An hour before, a man was shot in west Abilene and taken to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

There is no immediate connection to the two incidents.

Homicide suspect arrested six hours later

Dead is Eric Tonche, who was found shot in the 5100 block of Capitol Avenue. He was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Arrested in connection to the homicide was Marvin Kyree Jones Jr., 20.

Abilene Police Department officers at 2:10 p.m. were called to the shooting scene. A suspect was not found immediately. At 8:20 p.m., APD located Jones near the Mall of Abilene and made the arrest.

Jones is in the Taylor County Jail, charged with first-degree felony murder.

The investigation continues.

The shooting death is the second this month in Abilene and fifth this year.

Man shot an hour earlier

Just after 1 p.m. Wednesday, police were called to the 5200 block of Pueblo Street in west Abilene and found a man who been shot. He was taken to the hospital.

A search of the are located a suspect hiding in a nearby house.

He was taken to police headquarters for questioning, then was arrested on a charge of first-degree felony aggravated assault and third-degree felony failure to register as a sex offender.

He was identified as Raymond Milton, 33, of Abilene. Milton remains in Taylor Count Jail.

Police say the victim, who was not identified is hospitalized. The two men are believed to know each other.

Other homicides this year

Last week, an Abilene woman shot a juvenile in their home in the 3100 block of South Sixth Street, then shot herself. The male victim was found dead at the scene, while Michelle McClure, 54, died at the hospital.

The other homicides were:

  • Jan. 1 - Ashley Rapp, struck intentionally by a vehicle outside her residence in the 3100 block of College St.

  • Jan. 2 - Bruce Alan Payne Jr., blunt force trauma in the 600 block of North Bowie Drive

  • Jan. 11 - Joseph Louis Johnson, attacked at the south-side Salvation Army

Arrests have been made in four cases.
