One of Manitowoc’s coolest bars to open for season, plus more can’t-miss events happening this week

1. Sip at the Sub Pub season-opener

One of Manitowoc’s coolest bars is opening for the season from 5 to 10 p.m. June 1.

The Sub Pub on the Water serves local beer, wine, spirits and family-friendly beverages with the best views of Manitowoc — from the roof of the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, 75 Maritime Drive.

To make the opening extra special, La Tacoyota Food Truck will be parked out front.

You can access the Sub Pub by entering the museum and using the elevator to the third floor.

2. Attend the 'Art Against the Odds' opening reception

Rahr-West Art Museum, 610 N. Eighth St., is one of the first museums to exhibit “Art Against the Odds,” a collection of work from more than 60 artists who turned to art while incarcerated.

The exhibit’s opening reception will be held 1-3 p.m. June 4. There will be light refreshments and a presentation from the curators.

3. Stop by Alpaca Odyssey

Stop by LondonDairy Alpaca Ranch, 6827 State 147, Two Rivers, June 4 for its annual Alpaca Odyssey!

Rain or shine, attendees will celebrate the new babies (crias), get up close and personal with gentle and rare alpacas, and learn more about the animals and their fibers.

Llama from Black Frog Farm will also be at the event.

In addition, South American music and wines can be enjoyed while also shopping the Alpaca Threads and South American Wine Store.

4. Enjoy Sabbatical’s Kolsch Service Night and Holla’s Food

Sabbatical Brewing’s “All the Kool Kids Kolsch Service Night” returns with a Holla on Wheels pop up!

On June 1, Sabbatical, 835 S. 29th St., will transform its taproom into a German-style beer hall with long communal seating and their Kolsch-style ale, All the Kool Kids.

Holla will be supplying a German menu of schnitzel, bratwurst and sauerbraten for the occasion.

5. Listen to live music

The weather is getting warmer, which means the live music scene in Manitowoc is heating up.

Live bands can be found all over, with frequent shows at The Wharf, PetSkull Brewing, Salute to Everyone, The Fat Seagull and Sabbatical Brewing Co.

Some notable shows this weekend include Boogie and the Yo-Yoz at The Wharf at 6:30 p.m. June 2, Branch River Band at Salute to Everyone at 8 p.m. June 3, and The Dirty Martinis at PetSkull Brewing at 2 p.m. June 4.
