One person in custody following active shooter threat at Central State Univ., near Dayton

One person is in custody following an active shooter investigation this morning at Central State University near Dayton, Ohio.

The campus was put on lockdown shortly after 9:30 a.m. when a report of an active shooter was made to CSU police, according to a statement from the university.

The lockdown was lifted as university police and local law enforcement agencies responded to investigate and after the uiniversity deployed its Emergency Alerts System.

The university released a statement saying the campus is safe at this time and the lockdown has been lifted, noting that there was no credible threat of an active shooter following an initial investigation.

“When we hear things like this, we act immediately to make sure our campus community is safe. The University has emergency plans, the individuals involved in those plans acted immediately and followed all of our safety protocols.” said CSU President Jack Thomas.

According to CSU Police Chief Stephanie Hill, a person of interest has been taken into custody connected with the incident

The investigating into the incident is ongoing according to the university police

Central State is a public, historically black land-grant university in Wilberforce, Ohio, located just east of Dayton.
