One person dead, another critically injured in Providence's first homicide of 2022

PROVIDENCE – A shooting early Sunday morning left one man dead, with a second in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital, according to Providence police.

At 3 a.m., two men were shot while standing outside on Elmwood Avenue near Potters Avenue, Cmdr. Thomas A. Verdi, deputy chief, told The Journal.

Both were transported by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital, according to Verdi.

One died there, while the other remains in critical condition, he said. Detectives are still investigating.

The victims have not been identified. The killing is believed to be the first homicide in Providence of 2022.
