One person dead in Myrtle Beach shooting. Third shooting along Ocean Blvd. in a week.

One person died in a shooting along Ocean Boulevard Monday morning, police confirmed.

Myrtle Beach police also said they have one person in custody. The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Cadric Elmore Jr., of Greenwood. Myrtle Beach police announced on Monday evening they charged a 22-year-old man with murder in connection to the shooting.

The shooting is the third along Ocean Boulevard in about a week, but the first that was fatal.

Myrtle Beach police responded to the 1500 block of South Ocean Boulevard around 12:45 a.m. for the reported shooting. The incident is near the Landmark Resort.

A large police presence blocked off Ocean Boulevard near 15th Avenue South. The nearby sidewalks were also closed as dozens of police investigated. Witnesses packed the nearby streets and several declined to comment or said they didn’t see the shooting.

A body could be seen in the parking lot near the Landmark Hotel from people on a nearby balcony.

The incident marks the third time in eight days that gunfire erupted on Ocean Boulevard. Police responded to an area near 12th Avenue North around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday for a shooting. Four people were shot but are expected to recover. Police said Sunday evening they have six people in custody in connection to that shooting.

Hours after that shooting Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune said, “We can’t afford to have this happen.

“This is something that’s going to take not only the management, but our businesses, city council and police department. They’re going to have to work together to be really, really tough to enact some very strict guidelines.”

Myrtle Beach also responded on May 17, officers went to Ocean Boulevard and 11th Avenue North for a shooting that left several injured.

Investigators say two rival gangs from Chesterfield County brought their dispute to Myrtle Beach and shot at each other across Ocean Boulevard. Following that shooting, city and police officials vowed to have an increased presence on Ocean Boulevard for the Memorial Day weekend.
