Kitchen fire kills man, 47, in Queens apartment
A raging kitchen fire killed a 47-year-old man in a Queens apartment building on Saturday, the Fire Department said.
The fire erupted at around 4:25 p.m. inside a fourth-floor apartment in a six-story residential building on 88th St. near Roosevelt Ave. in Jackson Heights, authorities said.
The blaze was still underway when firefighters got to the scene.
“It was an existing fire. It was a medium fire with a heavy smoke condition confined to the kitchen contents,” said FDNY Captain Mark Cuccurullo.
“We found the victim on the floor of the kitchen severely burned. He succumbed to his injuries.”
Sixty firefighters fought the blaze, which they brought under control by 4:50 p.m., officials said.
EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene, cops and FDNY officials said.
No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
