One person dead after two-car collision in Indio on Friday night

One person is dead following a collision between two vehicles in Indio on Friday night that sent several people to the hospital.
Indio police officers responded to the crash at Hoover Avenue and Fred Waring Drive at approximately 5:59 p.m. Friday. The crash required two people to be extricated from their vehicles, according to a tweet from Cal Fire.
Cal Fire and Indio Fire Department officials responded to the scene and pronounced one of the individuals dead at the scene. The person who died had not been identified by local officials as of Saturday morning.
Four others were transported to a local hospital, including two with major injuries, according to the Indio Police Department.
The cause of the crash was still under investigation as of Saturday morning.
