One person was found dead Monday inside a submerged vessel at the Customs House Marina in downtown Hampton, police said.

Dispatcher received a call at 11:41 a.m. from the marina at 710 Settlers Landing Road, Hampton police spokesman Sgt. R.C. Williams said.

Investigators are awaiting any formal identification and did not say whether the death was accidental or suspicious.

No other information was available, Williams said.

Customs House Marina manager Lynn Turnage said she received a call Monday morning that a pleasure boat had sunk .

“I saw the boat had sunk. It’s not very common, but over the past 30 years, they have sunk,” she said. “It’s been a long day.”
