One person helped out of apartment, other tenants evacuated during Saturday morning fire

One person had to be escorted from an apartment and evaluated for smoke exposure during a fire call early Saturday morning.

Aberdeen Fire & Rescue responded to an apartment fire in the 10 block of Seventh Avenue Southeast at 3:04 a.m.

Crews made forced entry into a bedroom and found one person they assisted out of the building, according to a news release from the fire department.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a basement apartment with smoke coming from its doorway. Upon entry, there was moderate smoke in the apartment unit.

"There was evidence of burning material within this single unit, but fire was out on arrival," per the release.

Other residents of the apartment complex were evacuated, but allowed to return after it was determined there was no longer a danger and smoke was ventilated, according to the release.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Aberdeen Police Department, Brown County 911 and the South Dakota Fire Marshal’s Office also responded to the call.
