One person killed in early morning wreck Saturday

Jul. 9—An early morning three-vehicle wreck on I-20 Saturday resulted in the death of one person.

According to Master Trooper Gary Miller with South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 4:29 a.m. on I-20 westbound near the 6-mile marker approximately 2 miles east of North Augusta.

A 2010 Kia Sedan and a 2012 Dodge Charger were traveling west on I-20. The Kia struck an unoccupied 2013 Chevrolet Impala that was disabled in the roadway from a recent collision, according to a release from the S.C. Highway Patrol. After striking the Impala, the Kia was stuck by the Charger.

A passenger in the front seat of Kia was killed in the accident.The driver of the Kia and another passenger were taken Augusta University Medical Center.

The driver of the Dodge Charger was not injured in the accident, Miller said.

Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said the identity of the victim will be released after positive identification and the family is notified.
