One person killed and two injured in late-night Sacramento house fire

One person was killed and two were injured late Saturday in a Sacramento house fire that remains under investigation.

The Sacramento Fire Department responded at 10:07 p.m. to a fire at a single-family home near 44th Street and Fruitridge Road, said Capt. Justin Sylvia.

Firefighters pulled the two injured people out of the structure, and emergency responders took them to the hospital for treatment, Sylvia said. He could not provide information on the victims’ conditions.

Firefighters later found one person dead inside the house, Sylvia said. They left the person’s body in the structure as part of the investigation.

Officials do not know if there were working smoke detectors in the house.

The fire resulted in “major damage” to the house, Sylvia said. He said the cause of the fire remains unknown, and arson investigators are looking into it.
