One person killed in two-vehicle crash in Fort McCoy

FORT MCCOY − A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of one person Tuesday night.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said an older model GMC Sierra pickup truck and a tow truck were traveling north on Northeast 203rd Avenue Road, just south of County Road 316.

Officials said the pickup truck did not stop in time and crashed into the back of the tow truck.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital, where he died. The crash occurred in the 14200 block of Northeast 203rd Avenue Road.

It's unknown if the tow truck driver, a 22-year-old Lakeland man, was slowing down for traffic in front of him, or making a turn. The name of the tow truck driver was not released by FHP officials. The investigation is ongoing.

Troopers said the deceased is a 61-year-old man from Fort McCoy. His name was not released by officials.
