One person killed in Wednesday afternoon accident in Aiken County

Nov. 2—One person is dead following a single-vehicle accident Wednesday in Aiken County.

The accident happened around 3:20 p.m. at U.S. 278 near Jaywood Road, west of Williston, said LCpl. Tyler Tidwell with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

He said the driver of a 2011 Ford Fusion was traveling east on U.S. 278, crossed the centerline, ran off the road to the left and struck a culvert.

He said the driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene and has not been identified.

The Aiken County Coroner's Office, along with S.C. Highway Patrol, are continuing with the investigation.
