One person and one dog died and another person was injured after a fire raced through a house in southwest Fort Collins on Saturday.

Poudre Fire Authority firefighters responded to a one-story house in the 4000 block of South Taft Hill Road about 7 p.m. Saturday and found flames and smoke coming from the house's windows, according to a PFA news release Dec. 31.

When responders entered the house, they found two injured people and one deceased dog. Both patients were treated for their injuries and transported to an area hospital where one died of their injuries Sunday morning.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the coroner’s office at a later date.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 7:12 p.m. A PFA fire investigator determined cause of the fire was smoking materials combined with the use of oxygen.

The fire caused heavy damage to the garage, where the fire started, kitchen and extensive smoke damage throughout the house.
