An estimated 90% of typical cleaning solution is water, so we're using a lot of plastic, spending a lot of money, and burning a lot of fossil fuels shipping something we can get from the taps in our homes. Blueland, a direct-to-consumer cleaning company, sends refills in tablet form instead of liquid. Customers don't have to buy new bottles every time they need soap. 'As a consumer, I realized that many times I had no choice,' explains Sarah Paiji Yoo, the CEO of Blueland. 'It seemed like everything came packaged in single-use plastic.' Since the company launched in 2018, it says it's saved more than 1 billion plastic cleaning bottles and 60 million square feet of plastic packaging.
