'A one stop shop for self-healing': Westport moms open wellness spa with a spiritual side

WESTPORT — Spiritual wellness is a hot trend on social media, and now there's a new spa in town offering an array of self-healing including facials, reiki and tarot card readings.

"If you don't take care of yourself, you're not going to be able to take care of anybody else," said Tricia Tappen, co-owner of The Blend.

In addition to its blend of physical and spiritual support in a spa-like form, it also features a large boutique area for at-home remedies.

The Blend offers several services such as chiropractic care, crystal and intuitive readings, all owned by different providers sharing the same space.

"My whole thing is 'teamwork makes the dream work' ever since Day One," Tappen said. "So I wanted to incorporate everything that we can, through everyone we can, to be able to help out as many people as we can."

Beyond Aesthetics, one of the services Tappen owns, features custom facials from 45 to 90 minutes, as well as 20- and 30-minute kid facials. She also does lash lift and tint and brow and lip waxings.

"Skincare is important because you only get one skin. It's going to represent you for the rest of your life. You need to be able to take care of it," Tappen said.

Tappen has been working in the skin care industry for over 15 years. Since graduating aesthetics, she continued her education with The National Laser Institute.

By providing her clients with knowledge, she said she hopes it will help empower each individual to reach their skin care goals. "I want people to feel like this is a safe place to discuss these things and get my help," she said.

Leading Performance Chiropractic

Two working moms from Westport, Tappen and co-owner Danielle Botelho, are best friends who wanted to bring more wellness opportunities to the SouthCoast.

"We complement each other well," said Tappen. "I'm creative and outgoing and she's very focused and driven."

"We love what we're doing, and we love doing this because it's like we're experiencing it through our guests when helping them," added Botelho.

Botelho owns Leading Performance Chiropractic, which offers 30- to 90-minute sessions though she isn't taking new clients at the moment.

"I love hands-on work. I do something totally different in my room," Botelho said. "I do chiro, but I do a lot of muscle stuff like stretching and massage."

More types of services

Enjoying Vibes offers tarot and guided meditation while The Healing Star has services such as reiki, guided meditation/hypnotherapy, inner child healing and spiritual coaching.

Offering services for over 10 years, as a paranormal investigator with Ghost Hunts USA, Evolving Vibes owner Brian Dansereau said psychic readings aren’t about “telling your future” but about discovery.

However, the Sip & Soak is The Blend's newest feature which invites guests to pick between six unique custom blends such as lavender, frankincense or pineapple, orange each with added epsom and Himalayan salt and grapeseed oil.

Each soak comes with a complimentary beverage, warm neck roll and foot scrub.

At the end of the day, both Botelho and Tappen said it's fun to help people feel better.

"We're a one-stop shop for self-healing. We are helping to heal people," Tappen said. "We want people to leave light, refreshed and recharged and leave as a different person."
