One teen arrested, two juveniles hospitalized after Wayne County crash

RICHMOND, Ind. — One teenager was arrested and two others were hospitalized following a Thursday pickup truck crash in Economy.

Wayne County sheriff's deputies were sent to what was reported to be "a severe motor vehicle accident" in the area of Banning and Economy roads about 4:45 p.m., according to a news release.

Emergency responders found a pickup truck at the scene, which had struck a utility pole, "nearly split in two," the release said.

The truck's 17-year-old driver received medical treatment and was later arrested and taken to a juvenile detection center, preliminarily charged with driving while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, driving with a controlled substance in his system and driving without ever receiving a license.

Two juvenile passengers in the truck were taken by ambulance to Reid Hospital, and one was later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, "due to the severity of the injury," according to the release.

Along with Wayne County sheriff's deputies, Hagerstown police and firefighters, the Richmond Fire Department's drone team and personnel from Reid Health EMS and Trauma Services responded to the scene.
