One is the theme of this week

With our spring coverage wrapping up, there's still some leftover business to decide.

Who is No. 1?

We close our spring coverage with our Top 10 local rankings (and our All-Scholastics are coming soon). So far, boys and girls lacrosse and baseball rankings have been published. Softball is coming soon.

The Notre Dame Academy girls lacrosse team and the Milton baseball team made for easy No. 1s. Both teams were wire-to-wire No. 1s in our South Shore poll and ended up as the Div. 2 champs.

Boys lacrosse was a little more contentious. Hingham and BC High were heavyweight contenders in Div. 1, but ultimately Div. 3 champion Norwell earned the top spot. The Clippers lost two games, both were one-goal defeats to Div. 1 teams in April, and were simply superb in tournament play.

Coaching carousel

The last week has me roaring to go for high school football coverage. There's been several recent coaching changes.

Mark Killinger left Norwell to take over at Silver Lake. Longtime Norwell boys basketball coach (among many other sports) John Willis will take over at Norwell on interim basis. Brian Chamberlain left Braintree after 11 seasons to go to Southeastern, where his daughter goes to school.

Picture of the Week

What are the odds of this one? At the Hanover High football team's recent golf fundraiser, there two hole-in-ones. Assistant coach Brian Kelliher and 11-year-old Cole Mahoney both sank incredible shots on the 17th hole at Pembroke Country Club.

“I just saw the ball disappear and my uncle went, ‘Oh my gosh – did that go in?”, the fifth grader from Hanover Middle School remembered.

“It was a fun day with friends and supporters of Hanover High School football for that tournament," said Kelliher.
