One-vehicle crash near Elk Point leaves 38-year-old woman dead

Jun. 26—ELK POINT — A Saturday morning rollover crash in Union County has left one woman dead.

According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the 38-year-old woman who was driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan was traveling southbound on Interstate 29 when she lost control of the vehicle around 3:40 a.m. After losing control, the driver entered the median and crossed southbound lanes, resulting in a rollover crash in the ditch near mile marker 33 on Interstate 29.

The name of the woman who died is not yet being released pending notification of family members. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and the portion of I-29 was closed for about an hour, while traffic was rerouted.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
