Mackenzie Biehl, a Tallahassee mother of two preschoolers, says she has been a shopper of the One Week Boutique at the Tucker Center for five years. She can’t wait for the spring version of the semi-annual consignment sale to begin.

“It benefits me because I get things for my kids at a great price,” Biehl, 33, told the Tallahassee Democrat this week. “I’ve found really unique costumes, stools, Gator and FSU clothing with tags still on them, fabulous books and more.”

Just in time for the summer season, Biehl and thousands of other parents are expected to pack the One Week Boutique semi-annual spring consignment sale, held April 14-16 inside the Tucker Civic Center, 505 W. Pensacola St.

There will be over 2,500 items discounted up to 90% off, ranging from toys to beach towels to swimsuits available for parents to buy. Other popular items include gently-used women’s and men’s clothing, books and movies, home goods, furniture, and shoes.

The top selling item for the spring sale is normally swimsuits, marketing coordinator Victoria McCormick said.

“With summer coming up, we’re really looking for summer clothes, swimsuits, sandals and stuff like that,” McCormick said of in-demand consignment items.

As of Tuesday, over 600 consignor slots have been filled, and there is still room for more.

The event attracted thousands of shoppers at their fall sale in October, with much of their consumer pool being new mothers, McCormick said.

“It’s so big, our numbers vary with every sale,” she said, adding the first event in 2006 drew 250 shoppers and now they expect to have over 6,000 shoppers.

“We always expect more people to come,” McCormick said. “Thousands of people come out and they come from all over.”

Consignors will make 60% of total sales and will be paid at the end of the week. They can also donate unsold items once the sale is over.

“Multiple local charities also benefit with cash and in-kind donations from the sale,” CEO Angela Presley said in a release.

Biehl suggests parents should consider attending without their children to make the experience more efficient.

“Stay focused and bring a friend and know what you’re looking for,” Biehl said. “If you can, leave your kids with someone so you can diligently get through everything with laser focus.”
