OnePULSE Foundation presents free screening of award-winning film ‘Crush’

The onePULSE Foundation is holding a free virtual screening Wednesday of the award-winning short film, “Crush,” followed by a panel discussion. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

“This film explores the complications of love when you’re gay and attracted to a friend, but don’t know if they are straight or gay,” said Dr. Earl Mowatt, vice president of education for the onePULSE Foundation. “The panel discussion will focus on how finding love shouldn’t be complicated.”

The story takes place on a high school prom night in the South Bronx. Dominic Colon’s screenplay won the 2011 HBO/New York International Latino Film Festival’s short film script competition.

To RSVP for the film and discussion, go to eventbrite.com.

The onePULSE Foundation was established following the June 2016 mass shooting at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub to honor the 49 people killed, help survivors heal and build a national memorial and museum.

The film is the first in a series of public activities leading up Pulse Remembrance Week, which begins June 4 with the Sixth Annual CommUNITY Rainbow Run & CommUNITY Festival. At 8 a.m., the 4.9K run honors the victims as well as survivors and first responders. It begins and ends at Wadeview Park, 2177 South Summerlin Ave. in Orlando.

There’s also a kids’ fun run around the park and a virtual option for runners globally to join. The CommUNITY festival goes from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and offers live entertainment, food and family-friendly activities.

Online registration for the in-person run is $49, or you can sign up at the park on June 4 for $60. All in-person participants will receive a run T-shirt, tote bag and commemorative run medal. Registration for the kids’ fun run is $5.
