American shoppers let their fingers do the work this holiday season, driving e-commerce sales to a record high.

That's according to a report by Mastercard, which showed e-commerce sales between November 1 and Christmas Eve, rose nearly 19% from last year.

During a shopping season crucial for retailers that can account for up to 40% of annual sales.

But this year Thanksgiving came a week later than last year, leaving shoppers scrambling to finish up their shopping.

And leaving retailers with six fewer days to drive sales between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Meanwhile, overall holiday sales climbed more than three percent from last year.

President Donald Trump took to Twitter to boast about the growth saying it was the biggest in U.S. history.

However Mastercard's Spokesman refuted that claim, citing 2018's 5% growth as besting this year's.
