The only game in the state: Sisseton girls top Great Plains Lutheran

Sisseton turned in an impressive performance Thursday night during the first official game of the 2022-23 South Dakota high school girls basketball season.

The Redmen raced out to a 14-0 lead after one quarter and recorded a 66-28 win over the host Panthers.

Krista Langager led Sisseton with 15 points and her sister Chloe added 10. Tara Nelson finished with 12 points, Hannah Leverson 11 and Jourdes Chanku and Tara Nelson each six.

Abby Kjenstad tallied seven points, Myra Lentz five and Madeline Prahl and Kate and Olivia Holmen each four for the Panthers.

Northern Cass 78, Tri-State 61: Northern Cass notched a 78-61 North Dakota win over Tri-State on Thursday. Tri-State opened the season earlier this week with a 77-66 loss to Kindred. N.D.

West Central Minnesota

In Minnesota boys basketball openers on Thursday, Canby rolled to a 66-41 win over Edgerton and Dawson-Boyd blasted Ortonville 95-22.

West Central Minnesota girls basketball teams opened their seasons on Monday and Tuesday. Canby (1-1) topped Ortonville 61-15 on Monday and lost to Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 56-46 on Tuesday. Ortonville (0-2) also lost to MACCRAY 60-15 on Tuesday.

Aliyah Rangaard scored 13 points, Brynn Kockelman 12 and Braelyn Merritt 10 for Canby in the win over Ortonville. Chloe Rabe scored five for Ortonville. Kortney Leppke notched 12 points and five rebounds and Merritt 11 points and five assists in the loss to CGB.

In other games Tuesday, Dawson-Boyd downed Benson 67-39 and Lac qui Parle Valley defeated Minnewaska Area 68-47. Taylor Shelstad had 24 points, six rebounds and five assists for LqPV (1-0). Rylee Lund added 16 points and six assists, Isabel Gerdes 14 points and six rebound and Camryn Lee 12 points and 10 rebounds.
