After Only Murders in the Building season two wrapped up, fans already began looking forward to the possibility of future seasons starring Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez.

In July 2022, Hulu confirmed that Only Murders will be back for a third season. "All of your favorite characters are going to be returning for season three!" Gomez says in a fake podcast clip posted to the show's social media.

Here's everything we know so far about Only Murders in the Building season three.

Gomez, Martin, and Short will return to the Arconia once more.

Before Hulu officially confirmed a third season, Gomez seemingly let it slip in an interviews that they'll be coming back for a third whodunit.

In June 2022, Gomez told the Hollywood Reporter about her schedule balancing acting and her music career: "I finished season two, I did my cooking show, and now I’m gonna be in the studio until season three. So basically we’re going to be just working on new music. Like I said, I couldn’t do one or the other. I actually love both."

Similarly, in a TikTok posted when they wrapped season two, Gomez toasts "to a great season two," a phrase Short echoes, to which Martin replies "to a great season three... well... next year!" Watch here:

"Its appeal across generations, the intersection of humor and heart, and its truly original approach are a hallmark of and testament to Dan, John, Steve, Marty and Selena’s work. We are grateful to be able to continue telling the stories of Charles, Oliver and Mabel to viewers that have consistently shown us they crave more of this story," Craig Erwich, the president of Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment, said in a statement.

Paul Rudd, Meryl Streep, and more will join the cast, and the plot will likely revolve around a murder in the season two finale.

Season two finds Charles (Martin), Oliver (Short), and Mabel (Gomez) racing to discover who killed Arconia Board President Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell)—a crime for which they are being framed. The trio is publicly implicated in Bunny's homicide, and try and clear their names before it's too late. The murder occurred in the season one finale, so it's likely that the murder that occurs in the season two finale—of new character Ben (Paul Rudd)—will be the subject of season three.

After the finale aired, the show confirmed Rudd will be joining the cast for the third season. "Paul Rudd, after making an auspicious entrance into the world of our show at the end of Season 2 as Ben Glenroy, is someone we clearly want to know more about and see in our upcoming Season 3 — as he is a clear source of many upcoming questions and, as ever with our show, many twists yet to come!" series co-creator John Hoffman said in a statement.

In addition, Jesse Williams is also joining the cast, as a documentarian with an interest in the case the Arconia trio are working on. Ashley Park will play Kimber, a Broadway ingenue. Park posed a TikTok with Gomez, writing, "murders?? IN THIS BUILDING???? so excited to join this killer (pun intended) cast of amazing humans":

Gomez shared on TikTok that Meryl Streep will be joining the cast, in an unspecified role. It's unclear whether she'll be a guest star or a more regular cast member. In July 2023, co-creator John Hoffman told Deadline, "Thought out the season, we keep the scripts pretty tight, even with our main cast. I loved watching Meryl be attuned to that and come to that in some way throughout Season 3. She kept on wondering, ‘Am I going to die? Am I going to be the murderer?’ She had to know what was coming up next, it was funny." In a teaser trailer (watch above), Streep appears to play an actress who reads a part in Oliver's Broadway show.

Some familiar faces will not be back: Amy Ryan and Nathan Lane will not return for season three. "Only Meryl in the Building. Well, no, I am not. No. I've been doing a play, so I've not been able to be a part of it, but my character is probably in jail now, so I don't know. Maybe in a future season?" Lane said. Ryan added, "Only Meryl in the Building. No. I'm still in jail too."

The plot will revolve around Broadway.

As the murder of Rudd's character Ben takes place on a Broadway stage, much of the plot will be set in the world of New York City theater. As Erwich told Variety, "Broadway is a great setting, and they really mine it for tons of humor that’s very relatable and accessible, because Broadway is place where you get incredibly good comic characters, and that’s what John Hoffman and Dan Fogelman do so well. So I’m very excited about Season 3."

Season three premieres on August 8, 2023.

Production took place in early 2023, with the stars being spotted filming in New York City, including at the Belnord, which stands in for the Arconia.

In April 2023, Gomez shared they had wrapped filming, sharing on Instagram, "I’m not sure I have enough words to explain just how beautiful this season has. It has been deliriously hilarious, challenging and for me, an absolute dream. I’ll post more soon. But I’ll I leave it with the woman I adore, look up to and love." She posted a photo with Streep:

The official Only Murders TikTok also posted a wrap post, sharing a video of Streep and Rudd dancing on set:

During a comedy show, Martin revealed the premiere date for the new season. "Catch the new season August 8," he said, per Variety. To which Short responded, "Our show is like Steve trying to pee — it streams for 33 minutes."
