Only Murders in the Building season 4 casts Desperate Housewives star

Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria has joined the cast of Only Murders in the Building for its fourth season.

Deadline has reported that the actress has been cast in a recurring role in the Disney+ and Hulu murder mystery comedy, alongside its regular stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez – AKA Charles, Oliver and Mabel.

While the nature of the role is currently being kept under wraps, the site says that Longoria's character becomes "integral to the twists and turns of this season's investigation".

Longoria is best known for playing Gabrielle Solis in Desperate Housewives for eight seasons, and last year she made her directorial debut with Flamin' Hot.

She is the latest addition to the cast of season four, joining The White Lotus's Molly Shannon, who is said to play a "high-powered LA businesswoman who finds herself drawn into the world of the investigation".

As well as this, season three guest star Meryl Streep has recently been confirmed to be reprising her role as actress Loretta Durkin in the next instalment.

Loretta played a role in Oliver's bizarre Broadway musical 'Death Rattle Dazzle', although she was briefly thought to be behind the murder of Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd).

Details of the plot of Only Murders season four are yet to be revealed, but it is thought that it will revolve around the murder of Charles's stunt double Sazz (Jane Lynch), who was shot and killed in the closing moments of season three.

One big change in the next season is that the crime-fighting trio will be temporarily leaving the iconic Arconia building in New York and taking a trip to Los Angeles.

At the end of season three, Loretta – Oliver's current love interest – was offered an acting job in LA, so it's possible that the trio's visit to sunny California will be how Streep returns to the action.

Only Murders in the Building season 3 streams on Hulu in the US and Disney+ in the UK.
