OnPolitics: Ohio voters back abortion rights amendment with sweeping support in new survey

Hi OnPolitics readers. A new USA TODAY Network/Suffolk University survey in Ohio found sweeping support for a proposed constitutional amendment that would enshrine abortion rights in the state.

The poll of 500 likely voters in Ohio found that the amendment was backed 58% to 32%. Support for the amendment also crossed party lines, including a third of Republicans and 85% of independent women.

What does that mean? The support for the measure highlights the power of the issue to spur on voters and impact elections in Republican-leaning states, USA TODAY’s Susan Page reports.

The Supreme Court last year voted to overturn Roe v. Wade, eliminating constitutional protections for abortion across the country.

Since the court’s decision, 14 states have banned most abortions. Other states have sought to do the same, but their bans and restrictions have been clocked in courts. Over the same period, 20 other states have further protected abortion access.
