OPD sends 4 officers to help in Uvalde

Jun. 2—The Odessa Police Department has sent four officers to Uvalde to help out following the May 24 shooting that took the lives of 19 students and two teachers at Robb Elementary School. Another 17 people were injured in the incident.

"The Odessa Police Department understands the increased demands on police resources following mass shootings like the one that recently occurred in Uvalde," a department spokesman wrote in an email.

The officers will "assist their local law enforcement agencies with additional patrols and security details. Our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected by this senseless tragedy," Cpl. Steven LeSueur wrote.
