What’s open, who has the best deals for New Bern's Black Friday shoppers?
The 2022 holiday shopping season will kick into high gear on Nov. 25 with what has become an annual late fall tradition ― the frenzied gift grab known as Black Friday.
Locally, New Bern shoppers will have a wide range of Black Friday deals available both in-store and online, with most of the area's major retailers slashing prices on their most popular sales items.
While inflation and lingering COVID-19 worries might be expected to keep some shoppers at home this year, 2022 is on track to be a boom year for both big box stores and smaller retailers.
According to data from Adobe Analytics, online holiday sales are expected to hit $209.7 billion from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, representing a 2.5% growth over last year. During the 2021 holiday shopping season, $204.5 billion was spent online, with consumers uncertain about returning to physical stores due to lingering pandemic concerns.
One way retailers have addressed those worries is by jumpstarting 2022 Black Friday sales with online discounts across the entire month of November, making it easier for families to get a head start on their holiday shopping.
From power tools to Christmas trees and electronics, here is a look at what’s available for New Bern’s Black Friday shoppers this year.

Target Black Friday deals
Target's official Black Friday sale will go live on Nov. 25-27, with a Cyber Monday sale expected for Nov. 28.
Target stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, with most stores reopening at 7 a.m. on Black Friday, Nov. 25.
This year, the store began offering holiday savings in early October through its "Weeklong Black Friday Deals." The offer, which runs through Thanksgiving weekend, features seven weeks of the store’s best prices planned for the holiday season on thousands of items.
According to their website, Target will have even more Black Friday deals available this year via the store’s same-day services, including Drive-Up and Order Pickup, offering guests the best deals possible with no membership required.
The retailer is offering low prices on everything from 4K TVs and headphones to video games and kitchen appliances. Deals are available both in-store and online via Target.com or the Target app, with select offers available exclusively online.
“By making our Black Friday deals available even earlier this year, and bringing back our popular Deal of the Day, we’re giving guests even more reasons to choose Target for everything they want and need this holiday season," said Target Executive Vice President and Chief Growth Officer Christina Hennington in a press release.
Walmart Black Friday deals
Walmart will be closed on Thanksgiving Day but will open its doors at 5 a.m. on Black Friday, with most stores staying open until 11 p.m.
Walmart's in-store Black Friday sale traditionally occurs the day after Thanksgiving. This year, however, Walmart has been running three "Black Friday Deals for Days" sales each week of November, with the final event running from Nov. 21-27.
They will be offering customers savings on an assortment of Black Friday items this year, with discounts on electronics, toys and apparel and Walmart-exclusive items. Customers will also find deals on top brands like Apple, Dyson, LEGO and LOL Surprise.
Walmart+ members receive early access to online Black Friday events throughout November, giving shoppers an opportunity to shop all the same deals four hours earlier. The Walmart+ membership includes free shipping with no order minimum on items shipped by Walmart, free delivery from the store, Rx for Less as well as mobile Scan and Go.
“Black Friday has evolved over the years from a single day to an entire season and is without a doubt the most anticipated shopping event of the year," said Walmart U.S. Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer Charles Redfield in a press release. "Our customers are counting on us more than ever to help them find the season’s best gifts while delivering incredible savings as only Walmart can."
Lowe's Black Friday deals
The New Bern Lowe's will be closed on Thanksgiving Day but open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday. The store will run Black Friday deals throughout the entire month of November, with new deals arriving weekly and ending on Wednesday, Nov. 30. Sales are available in-store and online at lowes.com.
Black Friday sale items already available include appliances up to $750 off, 25% off bathroom fixtures, 20% off pre-lit Christmas trees, half-price garden furniture and a reduction on tools from Bosch, Dewalt and more.
Lowe’s also has a selection of low-priced Black Friday kitchen appliances, washers and dryers, and an array of affordable Wi-Fi-enabled doorbells, cameras and hubs from Google Home, Ring and Amazon Alexa.

Belk Black Friday deals
Belk, located at the New Bern Mall, will open at 7 a.m. on Black Friday. The store is offering Black Friday deals in-store and online from Nov. 18-26, with up to 75% off its “Doorbuster” items, including holiday décor, jewelry, children and baby apparel, men’s and women’s shoes and cookware.

Ace Hardware Black Friday deals
Ace Hardware in New Bern will open at 8 a.m. on Black Friday.
The store will offer special Black Friday sales prices on items ranging from paint, varnish and renovation supplies; to power tools from major brands, including both gas and battery-powered models; grills, smokers and accessories; and lawn care, gardening and outdoor living products.
Ace Rewards members can save even more with exclusive Black Friday online vouchers, redeemable to receive discounts on individual items, product categories and sitewide orders. Rewards members can also take advantage of free delivery on a range of qualifying orders, along with free assembly of grills, smokers and more.
