Open houses planned at new Mentor Community Recreation Center

May 8—The city of Mentor has announced a series of open houses at the new Mentor Community Recreation Center in preparation for the official opening of the facility on July 1.

The open houses will be held:

—June 5 from 9 to 11 a.m.

—June 13 from 1 to 3 p.m.

—June 22 from 6 to 8 p.m.

—June 24 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Management and staff will be on hand to answer questions and provide facility tours of the newly renovated space, according to a news release. Guests will have the opportunity to sign up for memberships as well.

Those interested in employment can review and apply for available positions.

Mentor City Council approved the purchase of the Mentor Heisley Racquet & Fitness Club for $5.15 million in November 2021. The purchase included the building, equipment, and approximately 8 acres of property.

The 128,297-square-foot complex is one of the largest facilities of its kind in Northeast Ohio and includes an indoor soccer field, basketball, tennis, racquetball, and pickleball courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, cardiovascular and weight training areas, group exercise rooms, a childcare room, and other amenities, the release stated.

The facility closed in May 2022 to undergo extensive renovations.

Membership sales will begin on June 1.
